What We Do

The spirit of Friends of Downtown has grown in scope to include the following activities...

·    Our Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Breakfast benefits students at San Diego City College. Scholarships have been awarded annually since 1993 and last year we awarded over $18,000.00 in scholarships to 41 deserving students. Our goal in 2009 is to increase the amount to $25,000.

·    Our organization works with the downtown business community in collecting non-perishable food items and blankets, socks, toiletries, and books to fill 100 large gift bags.  We present these gift bags to senior shut-ins with limited income.

·    Monthly educational lunch programs with high-profile speakers from the downtown community. These programs provide members and guests the opportunity to network and gain valuable insight to our community.

·    Every teenager should have the opportunity to enjoy Prom.  During the year, we collect gently used dresses, suits, jewelry, and accessories to donate to students at Toussaint Academy of the Arts and Sciences so they can dress for Prom.
